The following
programs are currently being offered. See additional information about each
program on this website.

Parents (and their babies to age 3) are enjoying the many advantages of being
involved in our Custer County
Parents As Teachers Program.
§
Current and former foster teens, with their focus on independence, are another
rewarding population being served by our agency.
The PALS (Preparation for Adult Living Services) program
has specialists all over the state providing support, encouragement, guidance
and practical help for young people facing the challenges of self-sufficiency.

An exciting new youth program is the administration of the
Education and Training
Vouchers. In
collaboration with the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services we are
administering financial aid for eligible former state wards thus allowing them
to pursue post secondary educational opportunities. How wonderful to be a part
of a program that may be the key to a successful future for many disadvantaged
youth!
Another aspect of our agency is the provision of
workshops for first an second time law violators. These Rehabilitation/Diversion
Workshops are available in Kearney, North Platte, Lexington and Broken Bow.
These group classes encourage participants to look at their beliefs, their
behavior, their consequences, their decisions and their future. History/Board
and Staff Roles: Central Plains Center for Services
began as a dream for two social workers. As with many
dreams, the vision became clearer with the passage of time
and effort and on August 1, 1995, with the help of a
dedicated Board of Directors, Central Plains Center for
Services opened for service. These social workers embraced
their mission of “offering opportunities for positive change
to individual, families, and communities”. It was their hope
then, as well as now, to find ways to help the disadvantaged
enjoy the benefits of Nebraska’s “good life”.
Since that day, our purpose has remained the same. Our
Executive Officer, Nancy Ferguson continues to administer programs and services while
enthusiastic and dedicated employees carry out the agency’s
mission across Nebraska. The administrative office for the
agency is conveniently located in Broken Bow, a small town
in the center of Nebraska. This community is “home base”
for 7 employees responsible for carrying out a variety of
vital services or programs
The PALS program operates from ten different Nebraska
communities, with 16 youth specialists available to any
current or former state ward youth struggling with their
personal transition to independence. Everyone involved in
Central Plains Center for Services’ work is
dedicated to providing a “hand up” rather than a
“hand out”. It is our hope that this type of
assistance will result in productive, prepared and positive
individuals.
